There is no doubt that dogs are by far the most popular pets in Germany. More than 10 million households in Germany share their belongings with a four-legged friend. It is no wonder that they have their own day of action. Dog Day in Germany was first launched in 2010 and dates back to the VDH (Association for German Dogs) and its member clubs as initiators. Since the beginning of the initiative, the day of the dog used to role of the dog as a pet, best friend and social companion. Dog Day in Germany
Dog Day in Germany is characterized by a action weekend which is celebrated every second weekend in June. If the weekend clashes with Pentecost, Dog Day is postponed by one week. Dates for Dog Day in Germany will fall in the next few years as follows:
- 2021: Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June
- 2022: Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June
- 2023: Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June
- 2024: Saturday 08 and Sunday 09 June
- 2025: Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June
In addition to the numerous activities organized by regional clubs and veterinary practices, each year changing ambassadors, one or more celebrities, take over the patronage of this event. The award is given exclusively to public figures who, through their positive attitude towards the dog or about living with a dog.
In 2021, the patronage will be held by the incumbent dog ambassador Sanna Englund This year’s action day, like last year, only media and digital will take place.
Goals of the Dog Day campaign in Germany
